This looks like it might be a handy doodad

I don't think it will work on cameras like the D3 or D4 or ones with supplemental battery packs

As long as it's easy to install. I find some of them are a pain in the ass. I hate the little spaces at the corners of the camera that you have to feed the straps through.

I have the neck strap on my camera, and If I carry the camera in one hand, I wrap the next strap around my wrist,

The hand strap does look like a better idea.

i have the exact same JJC model..
Got it for my D5100..
Not bad... can be useful for some..
But after 6 months, the large screw that connects to the bottom of the camera broke, and it's useless now

Try changing a lens............

I fail to see how it would impede changing a lens. I change all of my lenses left handed while holding the camera with my right hand. Push the lens release button with the left pinky and rotate the lens and remove it. Same goes for attaching and indexing lenses on my F2's. I have been doing it that way for decades.

Perhaps you could elaborate.

Elaboration: Changing a lens. Not just removing it.

OK, removing and installing a lens is an easy, one-hand operation.

Now explain how you put on the front and rear caps (where did they come from?), place it in your bag, get another lens out, remove the front and rear caps (OK, where do they go now?)........... all with one hand.

I use something similar but much simpler. I just have a short leather strap attached to the side. If I put my wrist in it and the thumb out, it does exactly the same. It allows me to shoot one handed while putting the weight on my wrist.

Cost: 0.02$

My bad, I was not aware that when you got one of these that your right hand had to be surgically attached to it. I was running under the assumption that you could actually slip you hand out of it when you were not actually using it

I use my blackrapid about 90% of the time when I'm walking around, and the other 10% of the time I'm just handholding without any straps whatsoever. The bigger models like the D3 are pretty beefy and can take some serious abuse. I've banged it against rocks and trees while climbing mountains with the 70-200VR1 in tow. I'm sure it could hold up to a drop as well (depending on the circumstances). That strap looks like a cool idea for a smaller camera, but I'm usually fine with the original Nikon strap on my d7000/d3200. You can always just wrap the neck strap around your hand and it does considerably well.

So it does, indeed, impede changing lenses............
