Being new, I am not that up on the top of line cameras.... But that seems like a silly reason to knock a camera out "too many megapixels". :nonchalance:

But heck, I am a noobie so I can say stupid things!!

This has been a theme throughout the year on the rags, which are biased against the D800, and pick on the megapixels.. how silly

I shot with a D700 for 4 years, and for the last 9 months been using my D800, and frankly, bairly use the D700, the D800 is just that good.

I have no issues with speed of the camera, use of lens, computer (I did upgrade my notebook to an I4 generation but not top of the line), and CS6 works fine, plenty fast.

Oh my,, some fragment of sport shooters might want 2 frames per second faster burst.. jeesh

I am so glad,, super glad, that Nikon came out with the high pixel camera..

Just wait until Canon comes out with the 40 Meg camera, then the same folks will change their tune.

but go Mark III yippee,, hey where's your bracket button?

I have shot with both, and would I trade my D800 for a Mark III,, hahahahaha

lol:) Just like the "Sexiest" man or woman alive magazine editions, it's a bunch of cods wallop! This is purely to sell magazines. These so-called editors, come up with this stuff in order to grab attention and to intrigue people. There is no such thing as "the best" camera. I am not knocking the 5D MKIII, it's a great camera. But, is it the best camera for me? or for you? If i read the article right, they are choosing the Canon because of it's video features and because of it's low-light performance - all other reasons are rather trivial. However, the D800 actually has better low-noise at high ISO performance. As for the video part of it, well, Canon has always been a leader in that area. Though, if your primary reason in buying a DSLR is video, keep your wallet in your pocket. Again, this is total, pure, rubbish and should not be paid attention to!

Popular Photography has lost all semblance of creditably, IMO. There have been multiple head-to-head reviews that show the D800 outperforms the 5D III in nearly every category, from dynamic range to low light noise to ergonomics with the exception of fps. Even reviews performed by long time Canon shooters like Fred Miranda reluctantly name the D800 superior to the 5D. Not that I'm much of a conspiracy theorist but something about this "award" seems very fishy to me.

I'm not defending the review or article but let's face it, Canon still leads in popularity and a good part of this is more of the popularity contest. Nikon has come a long way and sales are better then ever but still not nearly up to the numbers from Canon when it comes to sales and popularity.

I noticed something interesting while traveling. When I went to CES/PMA last year there were Canon's everywhere, despite Canon & Nikon both having large exhibits. I generally see more Canon cameras being used. While traveling in Europe all I saw was Nikon.

Anyone have any sales figures for the US and rest of the world?

Eastern Europe had a lot of Canon's being used, I was told by a photog friend they are cheaper than Nikon's in Ukraine. Most haven't heard the story of Canon Lens mount changes and why I stick with Nikon.

I'm sure part of the reason lies in the fact Canon recognized the potential of lower priced full-frame cameras much earlier than did Nikon, leaving Nikon to play some catching up in this segment on this market.

Indeed it is a great camera, one that stands above the competition. Congratulations to Canon for making the camera of the year. Respect.

I have a D800 - almost from when they were available - i have had zero problems and bonus my old glass 28-105, 135 2.8 AIS etc all work spectacular with it. I love the 36MP especially when using the 300mm F4. Memory is cheap and the files are awesome :) I guess Canon is POP Photo's main sponsor.
