Problem with my WiFi adaptability.

Hi, I'm still learning to use my Nikon D5200. I have been trying to connect my android phone to the WU-1a. I followed every instruction, but my phone (Samsung S9+) won't connect to the WiFi - the WiFi keeps disconnecting and doesn't establish a connection. Can somebody help me out?

Do you have the “Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility” (WMU for short) app on your phone? Here are directions on how to sync with Wifi. Scroll almost halfway down the page for directions.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

I don't do WiFi with my camera so can't help you. But hopefully Cindy's suggestion will help.

There are many frustrations with the Nikon app. Make sure you have airplane mode disabled on your camera. Also, I have found that my camera and phone communicate better if the menu screen is illuminated on the camera, just tap the menu button. If you have multiple camera bodies, put the others in another room so there is no chance of interference. It might help when not connecting to turn the camera off and force close the app, then wait 30 seconds and turn the camera back on and start the app up again and make sure the screen on the back of the camera stays on. There are a few generations of the app, I believe the 5200 uses the WMU which was so buggy, I hated using it. Their newer app called Snapbridge is better, but still not perfect. Snapbridge is only compatible with newer bodies though. Hope this helps.

I’ve contacted Nikon twice for help with the WMU 1a. Each attempt has been fruitless. I have a number of issues with the device. The most important of which are not being able to reset the device and then not being able to get past the password challenge. There’s a password there that I entered. However the password that I wrote down is continually rejected. So, I’m dead in the water. I can tell from the way that Nikon customer assistance responds during the chats that they don’t totally understand what I’m trying to accomplish. My last chat session ended on a ”We’ll research this and get back to you.” I’m still waiting. I’ve read and followed the directions for resetting the device. I arrive at a point where both green and orange (red?) led’s are alternately flashing. The device apparently has not been reset because I still cannot open the app on my iPhone. I have place the iPhone in the Airline Mode, which has no effect. Has anybody else gone through the frustration? Has anyone else figured out how to successfully reset the device and then be able to change whatever password‘s been entered. The default Nikon password does not work. Thanks any guidance.

As stated before, don't put your phone in airplane mode as this will disable your wifi. The only thing I can add is to be careful about caps with the password. If they use the same or similar password as Snapbridge, I seem to remember it is all caps and had trouble when I didn't use caps. You have probably already addressed that, but is the only thing I can think of as to why it won't accept the password.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve gone through the process with airplane mode on or off. I’ve retyped the password in different config’s, obviously without success. I’ll keep at it but I’m close to returning it for a refund.

Found this.

To restore default settings, keep the WPS button pressed for over 10 seconds and then press the button again when the LED flashes orange. The LED will stop flashing, showing that the adapter has been reset.

Thank you. I’ve tried that. The led’s beginning flashing green and orange, alternately. When I again press the WPS button, the led flashes green, and continues to flash green. There is nothing to indicate that the device has been reset, and I still can’t log into the app.
