    That silicon in the sensor most likely is the same or a close relative to the one that is in the A7R mk IV. Nikon has traditionally manufactured its own sensor toppings -- CFA and microlenses -- and been able to squeeze better performance from a sensor than Sony.

    Nikon is a small manufacturer and doesn't have many camera assembly lines. These two new bodies will most likely mean that the current camera lineup that is being manufactured is
    * D6
    * D850 (perhaps one more batch before scrapping and retooling the assembly line for the successor)
    * D880 ? (no name yet)
    * D780
    * Z8 ? (no name yet)
    * Z50

    We have probably seen the last DX DSLR from Nikon, and obviously Nikon has no need to manufacture any more Z6, Z7, D500 or D7500. They have warehouses filled to the brim and the supply will last well to the next century. None of those were nearly as good sellers as Nikon had hoped for. Hopefully the Z50 and Z8 will sell better.

    Obviously the entry level DSLR concept is already dead, but Nikon seems to have plenty of unsold D3x00/D5x00 bodies in storage too. I wonder if Nikon sees a niche for a even lower specced DX sensor mirrorless, a "Z3000" to take their place. Since the Z50 is already very cheap there isn't much room in the bottom of the lineup as the lowest market segment has all but been taken over by phones.
