Back to the Tournament of Roses in 2017!!!

My son's high school band just received an invitation to participate in the 2017 Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, California, including marching in the parade on New Years Day of 2017. I'm still waiting on how much it is going to cost for the trip, but since there will be three of us attending, "it ain't going to be cheap!"

So it appears as though me getting a new D750 is going to have to wait even longer, but it will be worth it to see my youngest child participate in a major event like this. He will join his two sisters, one of whom participated in the 2008 Tournament of Roses, and the other who marched in the 2012 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. I made the first trip in 2008, but was unable to go on the 2012 trip.

It was the 2008 trip that really convinced my wife that a digital camera was a good idea; after film and processing cost us over $400 for the trip!

Thanks for the good words, everyone.

The band members and their families were initially very excited, and still are, but now a lot of them are realizing that there is a lot of hard work to be done to prepare for the trip. For the most part, we are getting into the "get it done" mode. At the football game that week, the crowd went ballistic with enthusiasm when they announced the trip prior to the performance at half-time.

The previous trips have seen the band get strong support from the local community, and it's happening that way again. We're very fortunate to live where the community is so supportive of our students!

What an honor! The waiting for the D750 is a no brainer for sure.

I'll still look for someway to get on for the trip. I'm already brown-bagging my lunch! :)

Congrats to your son Wayne

Thanks, Kevin.

Excellent, he must be excited, congrats to him and the whole family...

Pat in GA

Thanks, and yes, he is, and we all are excited, Pat. If I could just get him to go with his bagpipe band to the Savannah Highland Festival...

Way to go to your son and his HS marching band! We know you'll take lots of great photos!

Thanks, Marilynne. I don't know about great photos, but I plan on taking a lot of them, especially if I'm still the band snap-shooter!
