Stupid thing to steal unless you want to do the effort and change all serial numbers.
Not really, today items like that would seem to be fairly easy to move. I'd bet the majority of buyers (ebay, craigslist, etc etc) don't give serial numbers any consideration.

The problem is that only one needs to care. If you sell them on ebay or elsewhere you automatically provide a route how to track you.

While true, my money says most of those sales fly under the radar without consideration of serial number.

No doubt; the merchandise will sell quick if they use good pricing but with this amount they run a high risk they'll get caught when they sell it there. The better method is to sell it in bulk or ship it out of the country and sell it from there.
