Sorry to hear that. For the carpel tunnel, I had physio, and had my arm strapped with the bright tape the sportspeople wear... did that for a couple of months. The things that helped me the most was to use a bamboo tablet/pen instead of a mouse (I'm a CAD modeller, so I sit scrolling a mouse wheel for 8 hours a day, then again use a computer in the evenings!) Once that was stabilised, I started using weights at the gym, this too seems to help.
Your spine... yikes! sounds very painful.
