Anyone near Austin Texas? Looking for suggestions this weekend...

My wife and I are headed to Austin this weekend for a conference she's attending. Since she's stuck in sessions during the day, I was hoping to get some more quality time with the new camera while I can.

Any suggestions on locations that would make good photo spots? If it comes down to it, I'll just photo all the BBQ I eat, but I'm thinking theres more possibility out there than just that. :D

For interesting shots take in 6th street at night.....You never know what you will run into.

On a serious note, the downtown area is full of historic and interesting buildings

Thanks Kevin! Haven't spent much time downtown so that probably makes it a good option. The river runs along the south side of downtown too, right?

The X-Games are happening in Austin this weekend... A friend of mine has a son who is skate-boarding in the street skate event... the skater's name is Jeremy Leabres.

You might want to go checkout Hamilton Pool....I've been wanting to make a trip to shoot it. Also just an FYI...if you are a beer drinker, make sure to checkout Jester King Brewery.

Ohhhhh and the bats! The bats coming out of Congress St Bridge. Also the Capitol is pretty amazing.

Plus with the amazing music, catch a show at someplace cool like the Continental Club and get some cool shots.

X-Games would actually be pretty cool to shoot, good practice.

Hamilton pool, forgot that one and its on my list as well.

As far as Austin, I promise you will find plenty of things to do day or night.

We went to the original location back in February, and I would say so. That said, we went to the original location when there was another location closer, so the newer spots may not be as good. I haven't been to the one in Round Rock, so can't say for sure.

That's a new one on me that I hadn't heard of, so thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah, I haven't had a chance to go yet. It's next on my check list. Hamilton pool is nice but you need to get there early; they only let a certain amount of cars go in because of limited parking and then the wait begins. And the walk from the parking lot to the pool is maybe half a mile to one mile. You will need to check the website, they are closed certain times due to the bacteria level. I think they are closed now and will reopen June 7th. https://parks.traviscountytx.gov/find-a-park/hamilton-pool

If you are just wanting to go there to swim you should check out Barton Springs pool. There a lot more people but also a lot more parking and there are at least 3 life guards at all times. There is an awesome diving board as well.

Thanks for the link! My interest in Hamilton Pool is just for picture taking, so them being open for walking/hiking is probably good enough. I wonder if they would be less busy when they're closed to swimmers? Either way, I'll take your advice and get there early to beat the crowds.
