The threats to 'go public' via social media it totally unprofessional in my book. In fact, the bulk of his correspodence to SyFy is unprofessional. He comes off like a jilted 13-yo girl.

I think the threat is unprofessional (although smart to use as leverage), but I don't think the way he went about everything is. He's quoting copyright law properly and produced hard proof of violations. He was correct in saying that this would be a big PR blunder on their part and is probably going to get some money because of it. Short of hiring a lawyer to begin with, which would've cost a lot of money up front, I think this was the best way to go about it.
