Cameras Are About to Get 1000 Times Better At Taking Low-Light Photos

Interesting, cheaper to produce, lower power consumption, and we will see no reduction in price in my opinion contrary to what the article says. There is a reason why the same product will cost more in one country versus another. Cost is often set by what the market in a particular demographic will support. In spite of that fact it will be cool to see the improved performance 5-10 years from now when I suspect we will actually see it hit the market.

I can almost envision what it will be like in 10 years. I sit in my wheelchair at the assisted living facility. Peering through 1/2 inch thick glasses while trying to focus on an image on an I-Pad that is being held at arms length.... Can someone please come help me hold this thing steady???

I guess this is all well and good, but to be frank, at least as far as I am concerned, I could honestly give a rat's a$$. I am far more concerned whether or not I will still be able to get film for my Hasselblad 10 years from now. I guess it all has to do with your perspective.

Do they not make a digital back for the hasselblad yet? I would think that would be a good option.

Phase 1 makes one but that is really not the point. And it costs as much as a medium end digital camera. And you still wind up in the same dilemma as you do with DX format and 35mm/FX focal length lenses. The sensor is a good bit smaller than the 6x6 or 6x4.5 cm format. My 40mm Distagon, which is a superb lens from the word go, is equivalent to a 24mm lens in 35mm. With the Phase 1 back it is now equivalent to a 35mm lens, which for me is as useless as tits on a bull. I already have a lens equivalent to that in my 60mm Distagon. The only lens Hasselblad makes which is shorter than the 40mm Distagon (and will work on my 500C/M) is the 30mm Distagon and it is a full frame fisheye.

Film, especially medium format film, has a certain quality that digital will most likely never be able to replicate, especially in black and white. And digital cannot be pushed or pulled like film can. And although digital has come a long way, it still falls WAY far short of the mark compared to a black and white print made with a medium format negative printed on a premium paper like Oriental Seagull, which is all I use.

I used to shoot with a Mamaya 645 and developed and printed both my B&W and color so I know what you are talking about. I still think it is just a matter of time before film and developing is priced out of reach for the vast majority of people.
