Very good. How does it compare to your other camera...or does it? :)

Well I have only really shot with it for one night so far.
I was shooting a concert last Saturday of a local cover band.
I went through on Sat and did some setting adjustments. Had about half a battery left or so. I know it was going to be low light, but I didn't want to shoot flash if I don't have to.
Well I took about 600 photos at anywhere from 2500-6400 ISO and they look great. Most of the night I was at either 2500 or 4000 and there is VERY LITTLE noise. That was at F/4 and I think about 1/250 or so
There is no way I would shoot the D300 above 2000 and even at 2000 the noise bothered me and that would even be at F/1.8 at 1/150.
The D300 to me is an inbetween. It's great for an action camera and medium light with no flash. It's a wonderful step before going to the D3. If I would have tried to go to the D3 from the D80 I would have been LOST.
With that said, the D80, and not the D300 will be my second body. The color rendition on the D80 for my nature use is so much better than the D300.

That is interesting your observation about the color rendition of the D80. I feel the same way about the D5000. The color is outstanding which is why I am keeping it around.
