Music question for our Aussie members

So my wife is a big fan of "American Idol" which by default means I'm watching American Idol, too. And this year there's a country western singer named Keith Urban on the panel. I don't know much about country western music and I found it interesting that Keith Urban is from Australia and it got me wondering. Does country western music have a big following in Aussie-land or is Keith Urban a bit of an anomaly?

Country music has been a part of my listening pleasure from as long as I can remember...We had an old wind up gramophone and a heap of country 78 records plus a few polka types...Country singers of the 50s came to most little towns...I think that is how they made a living...At the moment at Tamworth they have a week/fortnight Country Music Festival happening and I'm sure Keith would have performed in some of the pubs and clubs...It draws about 50 thousand into the town...Me i like country, country rock and old rock & roll people like Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard, Duane Eddy to name a few..A few of the country people I listen to Are Steve Earle, Tony Joe White, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith and Keith Urban....

Dave....do what I do.....get another TV so you can watch what YOU want to watch! :) I have an extra old tube type TV out in my garage where I usually go and watch my hockey games and nature shows, etc. :) This way we're both happy. :)
