50 gig of free storage from Kim Dotcom's new Mega

Today the new "Mega" site launched, and due to the extreme volume, has been going on and off throughout the day. Mega is offering 50 gig of free cloud space in an effort to compete with (or utterly crush?) sites like Amazon and DropBox. I was fortunate enough to get registered this morning but the upload is not yet on-line. Here is a link to their site, might now work now but will eventually - mega.co.nz It would seem the Cloud Wars have just begun and it's going to be very interesting to see Amazon's and Dropbox's reply to this opening salvo. Regardless of what happens, one thing is clear - it's a good time to be a large file generating photographer.;)

I think so, or at least he's now at a point that he can move onto this next adventure. It's really a murky set of laws when it comes to the internet and I doubt much of what the US has on this guy will stick. But then again, what do I know...?

The Mega site is now up and running. The upload speed is pretty fast, faster than I was expecting. I don't know how much longer they will keep registration open so if you were thinking about getting your 50 gig, I'd do it now rather than later.

And here's a few articles about Kim Dotcom's new service. - Here and Here and Here

has dotcomm settled his legal problems from his last venture?
No they haven't. I was just reading about it this morning. He is out on bail, legal process is going forward, and according to the article it's becoming questionable as to whether he will be extradited.

It's not going to happen, the laws on this are way too murky to build a strong case. It's starting to look more and more like a huge publicity stunt more than anything else and reminds me of the whole MP3 debacle - When the small guy does it, it's illegal. But if the big boys like iTunes or Google do it, then it's all good. I suspect we'll see the same thing here.
