Excited about the prospects of repairing a handy old pocket camera

I've always used Nikon SLRs or DSLRs but always seemed to own different brands of pocket cameras. My last digital pocket camera, a Panasonic Lumix TZ5, died last year. It just wouldn't power up/turn on. I tried some Deoxit in the switch, took it apart to look for obvious trouble, etc., to no avail.

I recently read a thread on another forum about the Lumix TZ series "sudden death syndrome" that involves the failure of a tiny, crucial on-board battery. I got out my dead TZ5, took it apart and removed the tiny coin cell. Sure enough, the 3V rechargeable lithium cell read 1V -- dead. After much searching, I found a supplier of the battery and a new one is supposed to arrive here on Thursday.

I hope I remember how to reassemble the camera by then! :)

I guess my camera had a problem other than the on-board battery. The battery arrived today, tested OK, and installation and reassembly went smoothly. The camera still doesn't respond to being switched on.

I took it apart again, re-tested the on-board battery as well as the primary battery, checked all the ribbon circuit connections and reassembled. Still no go.

Oh well... I invested about fifteen bucks in an attempt to get the old girl going again. It was worth a shot. You can't win 'em all!
