She loved the M6, but she is a full-on iPhone photog these days! If she wanted it, I would give it to her without a moment's hesitation. I took it out so she could oogle it / hold it...but she said just holding a camera that was once selling for 8K made her 'sweaty' lol.

Who knows....jury is still out. I will have a few weeks to ponder it's future as it travels to the Leica folks for the checkup.

I'm glad you had asked her first! Her position is certainly understandable. If it were me, I'd probably try to sell it since I wouldn't want to invest in such expensive glass. But I'm a happy camper with my Nikon gear!

I agree completely! The D700 is all the SLR I will ever need. I still may get something else for the days I don't feel like hauling out the entire kit, but I have zero issues with the build or the stellar images from Nikon.

If I had maybe something small and mirrorless to keep on me with good IQ...I feel like I would be set all set for kit.

You have to ask yourself, "Do I really need an $8000 camera that only shots black and white images?" Wouldn't a nice small camera and some more lenses be nice?

So, if you get rid of it, you're likely going to have remorse for getting rid of a second Leica. If it is good, and Leica certifies it as so, buy a good Leica or Zeiss lens for it and keep it.

@Whiskeyman: Yep. You hit it on the head.

I ended up sending the camera to Leica to get it checked out / CLA'd. It has the sensor corrosion that affected this model and the M9. So I am having them replace the sensor and do the Certification.

After all this, I think I am going to keep it and use it like it was meant to be used, and try not to focus on how much it cost new. I found a great deal on a Voigtlander 35mm 1.7 Ultron lens, so that will likely be my starter lens for the Leica. I looked at the reviews for this lens, and it competes well with the Zeiss, but is cheaper.

There are Nikon F to Leica M adapters out so I may pick one up since my Nikkors are 'D' series and still have aperture rings. That would give me 20mm, 35mm, and 85mm glass. I can always look for a 50mm later.

The initial estimate was about 5 weeks to complete this type of repair. I will post back once the Leica is returned and upload a test shot or two.

I've posted this before, and maybe here, but if you use your gear at all, you're likely to travel to use it. And compared to travel costs over the lifetime of cameras and lenses, the latter are the lesser of the expenses for a lot of people. Spend $1000 on a lens? That can be a little as 5-6 nights in a lot of hotels and 1-2 plane tickets.

Photography isn't cheap, but the biggest expenses aren't always where we think they are.

    Enjoy that Leica!

Going to take some time to get used to shooting with a rangefinder again....but the camera itself sure does feel nice.
