Hello to all from Madison, WI area

I am Chris, a hobbyist photographer although I have taken money for an event or 2 over the years. I took a photography class in high school way back in 1982. I did not actually acquire my own film SLR for another 15 years when I picked up an entire Minolta XD-11 kit at an auction. I bought a Coolpix 995 as my entry to digital. I upgraded to a D80 in 2007 and bought a 2nd body after carrying it on hikes. Mosquito repellent needs a warning about exposing to cameras.

I later bought a D7000 and used that regularly until I purchased a D750 last year as my first FX format. I traded-in a D80 and a bunch of gear at that time. Early this year I sent my hiking D80 out to be converted to infrared. I have done a lot of IR since I got it back.

I primarily like to do landscapes and nature photography. I am getting more active in astro-photography. I try many styles. I also collect wristwatches so that is a favorite subject to photograph also.

I hope to gain inspiration, learn some better habits, benefit from other people's first-hand knowledge, and also to answer questions that I might actually know.

Welcome to the forum. It has been a long time since I have been to Madison. Does State street still feel like you are going back in time. It is beautiful up there. My family is from an area just south of LaCrosse on Highway 14.

Danno, State Street was pretty trashed by protest/riots last month. Many businesses are still boarded-up and vandalized. Capital square also had damage and 2 statues destroyed.

Welcome to nikonites.com. As far as insect repellent, keep it away from everything plastic. Some plastics are not marred by it, but many are. In my experience, if the plastic has anything whatsoever to do with electronic components, insect repellent will tear it up!

I am sorry to hear that. Besides passing through tough to visit family I often went there for HVAC continuing education classes back in the 80s and 90s. I always liked walking State street.
