Hi folks from Glasgow, Scotland:cool: (the sunglasses are not usually required here sadly)

Just saying hi!! I have finally realised a dream and bought a Nikon SLR, a used but mint condition D200. Its a bit advanced for me just now having being more used to a point and shoot the last few years, although a 35mm Pentax SLR user nearly 20 years ago. I was really enjoying taking photos however the high cost of film development and my limited knowledge and no internet (to expand my knowledge) meant a few shots from a 36 film made the hobbie very expensive. A Nikon was always my intention one day and after much web browsing, a lot of Nikonites reading and late night deliberating etc I picked up my D200. I see Fotojack and Curt seem to be regular D200 posters and I have decided this looks the friendliest forum on line with loads of good friendly advice from all users. I was on the brink of a D90 however the D200 I spotted in a local camera shop and the price given the condition was too good to pass on. I am really looking forward to enjoying it and need to get myself a nice lens, hopefully not too expensive but prepared to get a good one.

I will mostly take photos of landscapes however candid photos are always good too if I had the Nikon with me and of my son too. Anyway I'm confident of great advice here at Nikonites and once I'm up and running I'll post images so you can tell me where I can improve.

Nice to see folk from all over the world.

Cheers

Hi Jack

thanks for the reply and advice about the D200. I'll get that sorted out soon hopefully.

So glad I joined this forum definately.

The camera will no doubt spook me for a bit but hey ho we have to all learn don't we?!?!?

Ahhh you have a connection to Scotland too. Nice!!! My mum has cousins in Victoria, BC. It looks really fantastic however I'll need to save like mad to get there!!

I'll keep you updated how the Nikon is doing, thanks for the welcome Jack, nice to hear from you.

Gav, I've sent you an email on how I can send you help for your D200. Unfortunately, I can't send pdf files through here, so it has to be by email.

I look forward to seeing your photos! I'm new here too, just joined today. I live in the U.S. in East Tennessee, and we have some great landscapes around here too. I've heard it is similar to where you live. We should exchange photos and compare the locale. Have a great day, and happy shooting!
