Please make me feel better!

Hi, I am new on this forum and need help and (emotional) support!

I was looking to upgrade my Nikon D90 which has been my trusted DSLR for about 8 years.

T
empted by the ease of portability and low weight of the Coolpix B700 I bought this in a spontaneous acquisition a few days ago. Whilst by no means a bad camera I am missing the speed and precision of a DSLR already.

I take a great deal of pictures of children, pets and other fast moving objects and nothing beats the speed of a SLR (avoiding the many pictures of the back off the head or eyes shut!)

I think I will have to upgrade my D90 with a new DSLR in any event and keep the Coolpix for those occasions where a SLR is a little too bulky to carry with me.

The chap in the photoshop advised that today's equivalent of the D90 is the D7200. Is that right? It struck me as somewhat more complicated and heavier than my D90. He also said that buying *any* of today's DSLRs would be an upgrade compared to my old D90.

I am worried that buying the Coolpix was a mistake. Please help me feel better and tell me that there will be situations when that camera will be just perfect!

Many thanks for your thoughts.

i agree with Don, i remember looking at a D90 and choose a D60 instead, (mistake) but i enjoyed it and had it for 3 years then upgraded to the d7000, it was a great camera so the d7200 will be even better, if you can afford one go get it, i am sure you wont be disappointed.

Welcome to the forum,i found the D7000 to be a great camera, the D7100 was definitely better but i did not find the D7200 to be that much better than the D7100,so yes go for the D7200 if its within budget but if not look at the D7100.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

Yes, the D7200 is a very fine camera. According to some, the best crop frame camera available unless you are very heavy into sports and action, in which case the D500 (at twice the price of a D7200) is the way to go. If money is a real issue, then you can save a little with a D7100 and not give up too much performance.

Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!!

The D7200 is an excellent camera, that still retains the ease of use of the D90. I don't think you can go wrong there.
