Greetings from NW Louisiana. I have a question using "Trim", from the retouch menu.

I assume my profile shows that I'm using a Nikon 5000.

Following the instructions in the D5000 manual, for "Trim", the final instruction is to Create a copy of my trimmed image. This is done by selecting "OK". A new file, of the current crop, is suppose to be saved as a separate file.
This does not happen. I can find no image, anywhere, on the playback screen. What is wrong?

Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!!

I don't have the D5000 so can't say for sure, but I'm sure you'll get some assistance shortly!

I'm curious if the trimmed image is on the SD card and simply not displaying.

Have you tried looking at the cards contents to see if your images are there?

Welcome!

I trim in camera a lot on my D7100. The image will appear after the last image taken, it will not appear behind the image you trimmed unless that was the last shot.

Example1 image 1 image 2 image 3 image 1 trimmed will be now be image 4

Example 2 image 1
image 1 trimmed will be now be image 2

Clear as mud? I guess another question would be are you shooting RAW or jpeg. It works for me in jpeg. Don't know about RAW.

Welcome to the forum. I can't help you on your question because I do all of the processing on the computer and not in camera, but it seems that Marilynne may have answered your question. Have fun.

While I can't answer your question, I will welcome you to this forum. I will also point you in the direction of the Shreveport Photographic Society: The Shreveport Photographic Society. I'm not trying to send you away from this site, but I do want to encourage you to find out about this fantastic photo club and at least attend a few meetings to get a feel for them. In my travels, I never met a group of individuals so good at developing photography skills and helping people of many levels become better photographers. If I still lived in the area, I would be at every meeting and outing that I could attend!

The trimmed images are not on the card. There are only 5-6 images on the card, as I'm new to this camera and am experimenting. I placed the card into the slot on my laptop. Only my sample images are present.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I'm shooting in jpeg, I believe. At this time in my new experience with the camera, my photos have been mostly in some Auto mode. I have examined my "Trim" efforts by placing the card in my laptop, to see my results. Nothing, other than my few sample photos, is there.

Thank you for your suggestion.

My D5100 changes the first letter from D to C when I trim in camera. Try using a different mode and see if that works.

I just put my camera in auto and took a shot, then trimmed in camera. I now have two shots, one with dsc_6402 and csc_6403.
