Hello, Im Dan
new here because I ran into a problem today, I puchased a reconditioned D3200 body, I previously was using a D3100.
Problem is I cant edit the NEF files in view NX2. I was setup for jpeg and NEF today, I can do minor editing with the JPEG files from today.
So Im hoping its just a menu setting I missed, sucks to drive 200 miles take 400 shots and I cant tweak my exposure, so can you all help me out ? Thanks, Dan.

Marilynne, I am in Port St Lucie.
Fred, when I select a NEF file I cannot use any of the adjustment options, the sliders are dark, unavailable, normally I only use exposure compensation, sharpness and contrast for the basic editing I do. All my other files work ok, its just the files from the 3200, thats why I thought maybe I missed a camera setting somewhere.

First off ,thanks for your help Fred, I tried to put a file on Flickr but I got a doesn't look like a valid photo msg, although I can attach the NEF file it via email, you want to do that, or recommend a host. Thanks.

Good call Marilynn, thats a possibility, there was some musical cards and cameras goin down before my trip yesterday, and a few weeks ago I went out, without a card in my camera, 2 charged batteries and no card.
So I put a new card in and formatted it and everything's good with that card. so I will back up the original card reformat and go from there. Thanks.

Okay Dan... It's not your computer/software... It's definitely either the memory card or camera, or combo... My Finder has an add-in for NEF files, and it sees the file fine... However, no editors will open the file... because it believes camera RAW isn't the proper version... although it is...

I notice that they all see the file as 24M... however, the file is really only 21.9M... about the size of a 24M NEF file without the embedded thumbnail...

Here's what I would do...

Set your camera for RAW only... format a memory card in the camera, take a picture, then import the pic. in your software and see if it's editable... If that works...next, I set the camera to do both Raw + Jpeg... and repeat the test to see if the raw file is editable...

If the above doesn't produce results... then I guess the next step is going to be to get on the horn with Nikon Monday... with either a repair or exchange in the back of your mind... If that seems far fetched...then you might want to drive up to Jiffy Photo in Ft Pierce, and have one of the folks there take a look at the camera/memory card to advise you...

Thanks for your help Fred, its definitely a card issue, I want to back that card up at work before I reformat it, but everything worked fine with a new card, I'm glad I was setup for NEF and JPEG on Friday or I would have had nothing for my efforts.
From now on everything is getting a full on functional test before I'm out the door.
So I owe you a beer or 6, you and Marilynne, I see we're also neighbors in the PSL area, any interesting subject matter around here ?
