Hey everyone. Found this forum and liked wht I saw so decided to sign up and become a member.

I recently bought a Nikon D5200 kit from Costco after years of wanting a DSLR. Over the past 10+ years I have owned several P&S cameras with full manual control but was never satisfied with image quality and feature set so I finally took the plunge and bought the D5200 and am SO glad I did. First trip out with the new camera was to Grand Canyon and I have some pictures posted on my Flickr page of that trip (critical reviews welcome).

I live in Arizona in the Phoenix metro area which I feel fortunate about since AZ is a wide open state with tons of public lands for photography and other recreation.

I am primarily interested in doing night photography (Milky Way, Moon, etc), long exposure photography, some time lapse and other "technical" aspects of the hobby. I am an engineer by trade so tech skills are high but creative skills are almost non-existent.... :(

I'll be posting some photos for critique shortly and trust the wealth of knowledge I have witnessed here thus far will help to make me a better photographer.

Welcome. Enjoy your pictures of the Grand Canyon now while they still look great because it won't take long and your skills will improve and you will look back as we all have and say to yourself, "man I didn't know what I was doing!" LOL! :) I think I have one of those moments every month.

Welcome again.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome!!! Moab, yep, that's funny - I better enjoy those first pics now before I realize how much better that could be. :)

Welcome! I bought the Costco Nikon D5200 a couple of weeks ago and I'm having great fun learning to use it too.

Speaking of Costco, I picked up a Manfrotto MK294 tripod/head with carry case and spare quick-release plate there last week for a measly $100. I didn't even know they carried them but I was shopping and saw a guy checking one out. This is easily a $200 value if purchased online.
