As the title says, I have been using Canon for over 5 years. Mostly for video purposes. I've always thought of Nikon as a fantastic company and have never subscribed to the idea that one company makes a better camera than the other.

A friend of mine has a Nikon D800 and I've been amazed at the photos being produced by this camera. I decided I wanted one of my own, so far I love the camera. I'm sure once I get more comfortable with the Nikon layout I will enjoy it even more!

Oh, and I'm 29 years old, live in Salt Lake City Utah, and my profession is Cinematography.

Welcome and thanks for joining. I just joined up recently myself but noticed you were in Salt Lake City. I actually lived there myself for a few years. Very cool that you are in cinematography as that has always been a dream profession of mine. Hopefully you'll be able to share some of your stories with us and do you plan to use the D800 on your professional shoots? It can put out unprocessed HDMI signal. Did you use your Canon for cinematography? Or a 4k camera like the Red? I'm hoping to get a DSLR video rig at some point to get more into video.

We primarily shoot with Canon DSLR's (5D MK2 and MK3) - They are just so small, and simple to set up, and the quality is perfect for most projects. However, on those occasions where we need a bigger format for footage that will be shown on hug screens we use our Red Camera.

I'm definitely going to use my Nikon for some video, but my main reason for buying the camera is for it to become my primary still photo camera.

Welcome to Nikonites. I hope you'll share some of your photos and experiences with us. Utah is such a nice place to be and the landscape alone can be very inspiring.

Enjoy your D800!
