Hello, I found your folks a while back when killing time on my phone. Hope I can contribute & learn from you good folks. My interest in photography started back in 1970. I've been shooting photos ever since. Made the switch to digital a few years ago. I'm trying to learn post processing, but I find that the hardest part. The old B&W darkroom was easier for me. Maybe it's the teaching old dogs new tricks thing.

Regards,

Chuck

Thanks for the welcome guys. I grew up in Cleveland, but my friends tell me I have yet to grow up.

I'm using ACDsee Pro 3. I've had the most success with it. Tried Elements a while back & just couldn't come to grips with it. Maybe I gave up too easily.

Not familiar with that software. I did see that it is an older version though

Elements is pretty good so you might want to give it a try again. Several people here use it and can help. I use photoshop and it has a very high learning curve but well worth the effort.

Everyone tells me that too about Photoshop. Long learning curve. My wife just got the latest Elements for Christmas. Is what you learn in Elements transferable to Lightroom & Photoshop? I have recently retired so maybe I take time & learn.

Thanks :)

Not having used Elements or Lightroom I really could not tell you. My degree is in Computers and my daughter is a commercial artist and a whiz at Photoshop so that was where I started. When I get stuck and can not find the info I need on the internet I wait till see comes home and I make her show me how to do what I want to do.

Welcome Chuck. I originally started out with Photoshop... It makes me want to kill myself. It has the most counter-intuitive, primitive interface imaginable. Doing the simplest thing used to take me ten minutes of hunting menus only to find out I needed to press the ALT key to see the option. However complicated you can do anything you can think of, if you live long enough. Now Lightroom 4 is a whole different story. It is made as a darkroom product, they renamed the adjusters to things that make sense... Like sliders for "high-lights" and "low-lights". It'll auto load your photos when you plug in your CF card, apply pre-sets, and you can fly through your photos making them hugely better in a couple seconds each. There is a learning curve, but in a day or two you can be looking at much better photos and enjoying the experience. I used to waste away whole nights in the darkroom, this world is orders of magnitude easier and more effective... Unless as a novice you buy Photoshop... Then your screwed for the first few years until you can learn to navigate. JD

Thanks for the warm welcomes guys. :)

JDFlood A friend of mine swears by Lightroom, I was afraid I'd swear at it. I'm overdue to upgrade my digital darkroom. I'll investigate Lightroom further. Your day or two my stretch out to a couple of weeks for me, but it may be worth my time to learn. Thanks for your insight.
