Picture moves in viewfinder of D3200

I got a D3200, one thing that I noticed while looking in the view finder and press the shutter release is that the picture moves very slightly. I didn't have that issue on my D40 and am wondering if that is normal? I was playing with a display D3200 at Costco today and didn't notice it, did I get a defective product? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to this and am not sure if I should return it or not.
Thanks

When I am using my 55-300 VR, I have noticed a very slight movement of the scene in the view finder. I have determined (guessed) that this lens naturally (un-naturally) does this as it is auto focusing, and I have just put up with it. I have not noticed any quality issues with the images produced. Possibly what you are seeing then, is a lens issue.

(This may not be what you are describing at all.)

Re: Help with D3200 PLEASE

Thank you for your help, I think you might be right, it's not a deal breaker but it seems like it's not something that should happen.

I think it is the VR function that happens when you half depress the shutter. If you read in the manual, Nikon clearly describes this phenomena. It is quite normal. To prove this point, just turn the VR OFF from the lens vr lever and you will see the image won't move anymore when you depress the shutter.

Hope this helps.

yes, because the camera, image, and mirror are fixed, and could not create the effect that you describe.

If you turn VR off, you'll notice that it does not happen. The slight image shift is just the VR kicking in, and that is normal, I believe. My VR lenses do that as well.
