Z Series Black Friday Sales
If you are thinking about a Z6 or Z7 this may be a good time to make the jump. Nikon's Black Friday Prices look pretty good.
The Z6 is $400 dollars off and the Z7 is $300 off.

Yeah, it is the senior class, but if you wanted to get into the Nikon Z cameras these are good prices. I know that they do not match the D500 for birds in flight, but the Z6 and Z7 bodies are still wonderful cameras. I really like the focus systems over my 7200. It tracks better and is sharper. The camera locks on quickly and with the native lenses focus is nearly silent. I am certain that the IBIS has improved my hand held shots and the EVF with WYSIWYG helps with nailing the exposure in manual mode.
But Jake I am anxious to see the Z8 or 9 come out, so we can see what you can do with it. I am pretty sure in will be just north of what I want to spend given how satisfied I am with what I have. I really think Nikon is on a roll and is just getting their act together on mirrorless.Dan~~Kentucky

Let's all hope so, and that they're not too late to the game.
I know someone who sold his Nikon gear, save his D850 and a 500mm PF lens, and is now shooting Canon R5 for the last few weeks. He loves the R5; and although he does wish there were faster lenses to go with it, he doesn't mind how light the new lenses are.
But he says he's not giving his D850 up!

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to go with a Z6ii as a replacement for the D750 and D610 that aren't getting much use (the D610 will likely get a full spectrum modification for IR). With the 500mm it will work for wildlife, just probably not small birds, but that's why I have the D500's. The ~$7K rumored tag on the Z9 has me not even anxious to see what that buys.

I was curious if he had done any more than listen to reviews and comments.. Seems to be a lot of negative folks out there. I have grown to really enjoy my Z6. It works so well for what I do. Better than my D7200. I also love the new lenses. I like how Nikon used firmware updates to improve the systems and I enjoy how they under promise on the updates.
I know Peta Pixel wrote an article that was a snapshot of a snapshot that Nikon is too far behind to recover. But I saw some additional info from the original Nikon investor preso that outlined restructuring, cost reduction, and a clear plan to profitability within a forecasted smaller market.
I am cautiously optimistic about their plans.Dan~~Kentucky

Well, he gets on board a new product when he is convinced it will help him. So I'd say he does listen to reviews and comments, as well as covering a camera systems specifications thoroughly. However, he will not keep anything that he feels is restricting his photography. I've gone on two shoots with him and he's had new gear each time, as in different brands. I've never heard him bash any camera brand, but when asked would indicate that a certain camera model didn't work for him. He uses his cameras nearly every day, and amazes me with his ability to remember and know menus and camera settings/layouts from many cameras. I strggle with going from my DXXA to my DXXB, but he can fly through not only that challenge, but also switch between Brand-X and Brand-Y.
I've got an idea that he has a contact in the retail camera/photography business which allows him to get products early, as well. This is likely how he gets so many new introductions to the business when he does. (What do they say? It pays to have the right connections.)
As far as the Peta Pixel article is concerned, I also hope that they are incorrect in their projection and that Nikon survives as a photo products company. I share your cautious optimism about Nikon, but understand that the world's economy is in new territory these days, and will likely remain so for a while.
I hope you and your family have a good Thanksgiving and that you get some great photos soon!
