I thought I would start a thread dedicated to lightning.
I'll start with a couple of 'handheld' ones I took last week.
I'll start with a couple of 'handheld' ones I took last week.
I had my camera in bulb mode, ISO 100, f/4.5 - f/11. As it states these were handheld and is doable "if" there are no street lights or stationary lights etc otherwise these will show up all movement. Not sure how many sec this was as all I did was hold my finger on the button until there was a flash. If you are taking a tripod then these settings will work great, if not then they will work handheld aswell.Great shots Scott.
Can I ask what settings you used please. I should be seeing a few thunderstorms in the next couple of weeks and would love to be able to get some shots like this.
thanks.
I guess I am fairly lucky. I tend to watch the storm a bit and then place the camera where I think it will be. There is a lot of luck involved, these are just 2 shots of a lot of lightning that was around during this storm and a few times it was in the totally different spot. If all else fails, have 2 cameras with 2 wide angles facing in different directions . I cannot wait for my lightning trigger to arrive as it will make it a lot easier. And I should be able to get day time lightning. PS our wet season has only just begun so there should be lots more if I can get out into it (am carless still).I love these lightning shots..
always been very confused about how the hell do you know where it's gonna strike????
