Optical Illusions

This article shows some surreal images that are supposed to be optical illusions, not Photoshopped images.

One that really caught my eye is called Fata Morganna. <--This link gives more info on that particular phenomenon. It would be interesting to photograph something like this although most people would want to see a video. Otherwise, they might think the image was manipulated.

I'm curious if anyone has photographed any type of genuine optical illusion.

Although I can see how that can be viewed as an optical illusion, I found that my eye went straight to look for what appears to be a faint horizon water line. I then assumed maybe the water was very still further out rather than it being the fog causing the effect.
I think we can see things differently on occasions which can result in many interpretations. It is particulary noticeable when people see faces in all sorts of places eg. clouds, food etc.
Of course the latter is easily explained as our brains looks at so many faces throughout a lifetime that it is constantly alert to recognise any given face at any time.
The downside of seeing things differently is that I might think my photo's look good when everyone else thinks they are terrible ;)

I have never seen anything like that in person. I did watch a video recently that explains how clouds can look like they are behind the sun. Sunlight is just washing out what is in front of it.

There is The Moon Effect. But the whole illusion is how in a photograph the moon is the same size at a horizon as it is overhead. But our brains seem to zoom that dang moon to a larger size when looking at it with our eyeballs while it is at the horizon. If you want to capture that look in a photo, you must use a longer telephoto lens.
