You darn Yankees are part of the reason the longhorn is no a longer dominant breed in Texas.
Folks from the eastern U.S. who were settling in what would become the Republic of Texas cross-bred longhorns with cattle that matured faster and, thus, fulfilled growing market demands for beef more quickly. Fortunately, the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America, which was formed in 1964, rescued the Texas Longhorn from extinction.
