I eagerly loaded the latest lens distortion firmware but after researching it a bit in my d90 and d7100 manuals and third party write-ups I wonder why I bothered.
The D90 apparently only uses it for in-camera retouching which I would find impossible on it's tiny screen. Heck, I only have one lens (the 18-200) that might show some barrel with a brick wall photo.
The D7100 can use the distortion data for "auto" fix (as well as the after capture retouch) but nothing I can find says if this auto fix applies to raw as well as jpg's.
Same for my J5, it can turn lens corrections off or on.
I use DXO which offers lens-specific (even 3rd party lenses) geometry fixes. Don't know if it is smart enough to know the camera has already made a run at doing the correction. Would not make sense to hit the jpg with two rounds of correction.
My question is, should I shut off in camera auto lens distortion correction on my Nikons and let my DXO software make its auto correction?
And just out of curiosity, when the Nikon auto correction is "on" is it working on raws as well as jpg's?
And it this is in the manual I will go sit in the corner for an hour.
