My 3500 keeps on saying that they are not on the base.
Is there an adapter or something that is out there that I can purchase so makings the choice to go digital was not a complete waste of money? And that was not said with a slight gigle, but rather with a bunch of lothe.
that's a total of 4 lens and 15 filters all of which I have used on several occasions in different settings. I don't even need the light meter, to know when I good photograph. And I don't get red-eye have since I last held a point and shoot camera when I was 11, and that was in the 70's.
Please tell me that there is something that I can purchase and put on my lenses.
TIA

Your D3500 will not use the older style lenses. You do not say what lenses you have but I assume they are auto focus lenses and they are not auto focusing on your D3500 and the exposure meter it not working either? There is nothing you can get to make it work. Give us a list of exactly what lenses you have down to the markings on the lens.

When was the d3500 released?

Transposed digits and meant D5300 maybe? Or maybe D3400.

Either way, I suspect Don is on the right track with the older lenses, that the body you have does not provide the AF motor in the body to drive these older lenses.

Did nobody else even think to look up the EM, to know what sort of lenses it used? And of course, there's some confusion as to what model @horsepepsi actually, has, since as far as I know, there is not yet a D3500 model—almost certainly what he has is either a D3x00 or a D5x00 model, depending on what sort of typo he made.

Assuming that it's a D3x00 or D5x00, what Don Kuykendall says is wrong. Any lens that would work on the EM will work just fine on the D3x00 or D5x00 cameras, but only in M mode, and with the obvious set of limitations.

The very first Nikon SLR to crudely support any form of autofocus was the F3AF, which came out about the same time that the EM was discontinued. Lenses bought for use on an EM would almost certainly not be autofocus lenses, and I think even the lenses for the F3AF aren't entirely compatible with the autofocus systems on later Nikon cameras.

Never had a Nikon film camera. I shot Olympus 35mm and Mamiya 645 medium format cameras. My first Nikon was the D3100

When I said it would not work what I meant was the auto exposure modes which I think what he was wanting to work.

That is true of the D3x00 and D5x00 cameras, as they do not read the mechanical AI coupling which any lens that was fully-compatible with the EM would have. If I am not mistaken, all other current or recent models of DSLR other than the D3x00 and D5x000 lines, do have the mechanical AI coupling, and will support metering and even autoexposure with any AI lenses.
