Leica R Lenses on Nikon

Firstly apologies if this has been asked before/elsewhere (I did do a quick search) or if it is deemed to be in the wrong place...

Does anyone know if there is a way to mount a Leica R mount lens on a Nikon body without having to resort to removing the existing bayonet mount (I have seen products that will allow this); as I have a couple of lenses that I would like to try?

Hi Fred, Thanks for the response. I had seen those (or similar) and it was those that I wanted to avoid; I'm not particularly handy with a screwdriver and don't feel confident to be able to replace it. My only thought on it was to try to get a "cheap" Leica mount teleconverter and replace the bayonet on that (Leica R on the front Nikon F at the back); at least that way if I screw up it's only the converter that gets wrecked.

That's why I said 'call B&H'... they have access to technicians that can install that for you, if it needs it... 1/2 dozen of one, 6 of another whether you spend the money buying a couple different couplers or mail a camera to NY to have the correct one installed... Don't forget, lens to body couplers are built to specific tolerances... that are within design specs for a correct focus... when you start adding couplers, those tolerances also become additive...

Just one "fly in the ointment"; NY is the wrong side of the "Duck Pond" for me; I'm UK based! I'm sure that B&H would [probably] deal internationally but I'm not sure that I really want to be shipping lenses to and fro (not sure that I trust our postal service).

I'm pretty sure if you walk into a UK based reputable Nikon dealer, show him the B&H link, and explain what it is you want, they'll accommodate you... That's what 'dealers' are for... :D

My other suggestion would be to buy a Leica camera... :p

Ebay search shows adapters
leica r mount nikon f adapter

Thanks for your help; I took a look at eBay and found some in HK or PRC. I then tried that well known on-line retailer with a name like a South American river and found similar ones on there; one of which I have now ordered - slightly more expensive but don't need a PayPal account and as it is fulfilled by them should have some comeback if there are issues.

Alternatively there is someone selling a Leica DMR on eBay that I could put on my R8; only asking £1650!
