I have been looking for a macro lens for a while, just wondering if anyone has or used the sigma 105mm f/2.8 ex macro lens,

looking to buy this at the end of the week, and at £400 want to make sure this is a good lens to buy.

All the reviews I have read have been positive.

Would be nice to get your opinions on this lens.

Thanks Mike and Paul, looks like I will be buying this lens at the end of the week :)

And 4 day left in work, then off for 2 weeks, so plenty of time to test it out.

I look forward to seeing your results. I've been looking at this lens, or the Tokina 100mm or Tamron 90mm. The price of the Tokina is very tempting and it is well rated I think but VR will be a must for me when shooting macro at that focal length.

I had a little surprise today, the lens turned up a day early,

So just had to test it out in the garden with a couple of test shots, will take more shots at weekend.

Wow, you had the lens for like 10 minutes and took some freaking crazy amazing shots with it. Wowow.

First, third, and fifth shots are wall hangers.

I bought this lens a couple weeks ago myself. Since it's been raining so much here and I've not had it out for test drive yet, I have no valuable input to add to this thread,;) ...except to say I arrived at the same decision for my macro lens, based on reading all the same very positive reviews and comments about it.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see if I made the right decision.:D

Thank you,

I switched off auto focus for the test shots, and just moved back and forward for focus.

Can't wait for weekend so I can really test it out.

Wow, Paul... very nice shots, sir! You don't waste any time in getting out there and putting it to work!

Then, somehow you managed to post those pics just during the time I was typing my previous 2 sentence post!

After using this lens for a few days now, I am amazed on how good it is, heavy yes, pictures excellent (when I learn how to use it correctly)

And not just macro. this heron was a good 20 metres away, and the duck was about 10 metres away. had to crop the pictures a little.
