Hi, I have a D5100 and it requires an auto focus lens that has a built in motor. I am thinking of purchasing this bundle deal from 47th St. Photo but I can't find anything in the ad that says wether it has built in motor or not. Does anyone know if it is motorized and will work with my d5100? Also has anyone dealth with this company before and how was your experience with them? Any recomendations in this price range as another option.
Thanks.

Well thank you to all who replied. Yea, I think I will wait till tomorrow and call them to find out. The reason being that I would get a couple of filters and I think a cleaning kit too for the same price that some of the other sites have for just the lens. BTW I also saw a Tamron just about identical specs for the same price. How do you think they compare? Would anyone take the Tamron over the Sigma?

I don't think I'd buy that lens. No focus motor. How about a refurbished 55-300 Nikon? It will autofocus on your D5100.

Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR DX AF-S ED Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Factory Refurbished includes Full 1 Year Warranty

Jeez, now I have a real dilema. I like that refub you showed me Chuck, because of the VR but the other one has the macro capabilty built in so now I have to decide which feature I want more. Hmmm, I do like macro photography a lot so it will be tough to decide:) Thank you for bringing that one to my attention I'm glad I saw it.

Mark- You can always buy a macro lens to screw onto that 55-300.

The free filters included with that Sigma are going to be low quality. For my money if I'm going to put a filter on a lens I want it to be of high quality.

Looking at the spec's between the Sigma & Nikon they both close focus about the same. Sigma 4.92" & Nikon 4.59'.

I've bought refurbed lenses & cameras from Cameta. Good folks to deal with. If you search a bit you will find some less than favorible reviews of 42nd St Photo.

Good luck with your decision. :)

Edit Just noticed that the Sigma has a macro mode that lets it focus closer than the Nikon in Macro mode. Sorry for the misinformation.

For me I'd still go with the Nikon lens over the Sigma.

If there's HSM in the lens nomenclature, then it has a focus motor...
Doesn't look like this one has...

Works well with manual focus with pretty good IQ, but it starts getting soft after 250mm

When in doubt regarding specs, I check the manufacturer's website:

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/product/70-300mm-f4-56-apo-dg-macro

If this lens was HSM it would be stated here and it's not so I'm confident that it does not have a motor.

As to macro vs. VR, I like macro too but I use VR every time I use my camera. I don't shoot macro every time. If you really love macro save for a dedicated macro lens or buy a close up filter for your lens. Just my opinion.
