I would say that you'd want a wide angle to be able to capture the varied combinations of landscape and cityscape, and something bright if you'll be shooting at night. I would say the 28mm 1.8 would do you for an FX camera, or the 16-35mm f4 or 14-24mm f2.8. I'm less sure about the DX lenses having not spent a lot of time with those, but hopefully that gives you an idea.

For the life of me, I can't think of a bad lens to shoot Central Park in the autumn months. It all depends on what you're looking to capture, I suppose.

My first inclination given that opportunity would be a 50 mm prime lens. I would want the best resolution possible to capture the foliage as well as a more natural perspective, while shooting a bit "tight" at least in terms of landscape images. Plus with a fast 50 you have better control over depth of field either to isolate a subject or extend the DOF.

For that trip I'd pack my 18-105 and a fast prime like an f/1.8 35mm or wider. Preferably wider, actually.
I've been looking hard at the Sigma f/3.5 10-20mm lately.
