Any talk/rumors on a Nikon 24-70 2.8 VR?

After reading up on the new Tamron, I'm wondering if Nikon will come out with a new 24-70 2.8 with the new VR the 70-200 f4 has.

When Sigma came out with their 24-70mm w/ VR (or whatever it is they call it) they made a mention of Nikon's up-coming 24-70mm VR lens. But that was close to 9 months ago and I've not heard anything since.

Yea, I thought I heard something too. I looked back about 2 years at the nikon rumors site and couldn't find anything. Wondering how old the current model is as they have updated the 70-200 2.8 to the VR2.

VR is always nice to have except for the added price increase that comes with it. The Nikon 24-120mm f4 VRII is already available as an alternate option including the 24-85mm VRII.

For now, I think this will remain on the wish list.

With DX, I've been anticipating the revision for the 16-85mm f4 VRII.

I think we could hear of an update within a year- remember you heard it from me first :). This is a top flagship lens for Nikon that is now six years old. I'm sure they"ll read this thread and get right on it :)

I keep going back and forth with VR, sometimes I like it and other times I think it's not worth the extra weight. I keep thinking back on my 105 f/2.8D vs. f/2.8G VRII, if it weren't for the additional IQ of the G lens, I would have stayed with the D.

I actually miss that lens. I only sold it in order to fund my D800E. I couldn't part with my 24-70mm f2.8 though.

I don't think Sigma's 24-70mm f/2.8 has the OS (or VR comparable). Sigma does have a 17-50mm f/2.8 with OS, but it is for DX. :(
