Repairing a 18-55mm kit lens

I have since replaced my 18-55mm kit lens (#2170), but still have the original The black ring where it attaches to the camera has cracked.

Is this a part I can purchase and replace to restore the lens to working order?

Just called Nikon and they do not sell that part individually. Maybe scavenge it from a parts lens?

Found what I needed tonight (link below). I have the 18-55mm ED II lens, looks like the mount PN is 1C999-488.

Should be here soon

Too bad they don't make a metal replacement! Nikon would sell a lot of them.

Agreed. Nikon doesn't even carry the plastic kit any more for some reason

Just found this link, someone with a little creativity mounted a metal ring on his DX lens.

I'm not that creative...

Awesome! I'll be putting a focus ring on my 18-70 once it arrives, but this one was awfully painful to track.
