Reality Photography TV Show

A blurb showed up in my email this morning about an Adorama TV reality show called Top Photographer with Nigel Barker. They selected 5 contestants who have to compete against one another. In this first episode, they had to capture sports photography showing their subject in action while also capturing the essence of who the subject was. One contestant was chosen the winner for the first day while another contestant was sent home. An interesting watch for those who are interested.

And this is the first episode:

I want to watch the show- what station carries it? Paul

Adorama has their own 'TV' channel which is really online video. They offer many videos on photography, and this show appears to be part of that.

Here is the link with the 'TV' they offer. You can either watch it there or via YouTube, but I don't think it really airs on television. It's just the terminology they are using to name it.

Here is Episode 3 of Top Photographer. They get to shoot from a private balcony at the very top of the Empire State building where few ever get to go. I was disappointed with who went home as I liked that person's image better than another one.

At the end of the video, they reveal the next shoot which allows the 2 remaining contestants to go anywhere in NYC. That one should be interesting because the last two contestants can now focus on their strengths rather than to be told what to shoot.

Thanks for posting these up. I enjoy watching talented photographers go about their craft. Overall, I like that Adorama did a show like this.

imo they should have keep all the contestants thru all the rounds. The contest of the day might not be his/hers style.

I tend to agree with that. It seems that most people that lost did so because they didn't feel that was their strengths. I can only guess that they probably did so partially due to budget reasons. I can't imagine how much it would cost to have 5 film crews follow all the contestants around New York vs 2 for the last challenge. Either way, it's cool to see something like this.

Finally had time to watch these. I was disappointed that I couldn't watch the last one yet. Ha! They are fun to watch and see what these guys come up with. Thanks for sharing the show.

You're welcome. :) Usually I receive email notifications from Adorama, and the first two episodes were included. So far I haven't heard anything about this 3rd episode so I searched for it. The winning photo from this challenge was my favorite, but I preferred the image that lost this round.

That's a good point. Perhaps having all the contestants stay through the rounds and accrue points for each challenge? But it's still interesting the way they are running the show.

@hark

The medal talked about is the one of the fencing guy, I assume.

I probably got the emails too, but usually jump over any of them because I don't have any money to spend and figure that is what they are about. Ha!

Everyone's eyes are seeing things differently.......some like drama, or sport, or technical ability or arty party pictures.....so having a contest can be very difficult to judge on the individual s take on what they see....

luck of the draw if your style comes up first , i agree 5 points to the winner of each round and 1 point for the loser , shoot all styles and the one with the most points is the winner easy
