Yellowstone in Winter Questions

Looking to get input from those that have went to Yellowstone in winter to photograph nature and animals.

1. What did you do?

2. How would you do your trip differently?

3. Anything I should know in planning my trip?

I know my questions are pretty broad and vague, but I really don't know enough to know what to ask. We are trying to plan a trip and finding this is closed, can't get to that, or this costs two arms and a leg per person.

Any help or input from those that have done WINTER photography in the park would be greatly appreciated.

The roads into the park are all closed until the middle of June, as is most of the park itself. The only way in very far is by guided snowmobile tours. The Parks and Rec have really cracked down on these tours because in the past they disturbed the animals too often so now they have very strict rules they must adhere to. I also believe there are some limited trails you can snowshoe hike into the park but the best way would be snowmobile.

Maybe not your cup of tea but PBS Broadcasting has a show called "Yellowstone in Winter" and is exactly what you are looking for in terms of wildlife and photography of that wildlife. Of course, the photographer in this program probably has special access to spend whatever time he spent there camping out while he worked.
