Alas, I cannot use DSLR Dashboard. It appears to require at least the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android, and I'm running Gingerbread (on a device that officially only ever supported Froyo).

Ok folks... here is an update.. A discussion came up on another thread regarding tables and focus stacking... wireless or otherwise. That brought me back to DSLRDashboard which in conjunction with the WU-1A had a focus stock option. I knew the tablet would not run it to test but my cell phone would.. So I set up a quick test... keep in mind I have no instructions so just guessed....

Here is the setup... just put the camera and the Spyder Lenscal on the table...
Also a screen shot of part of the stacking screen.. I used 10 and 25 (no clue what I should have used..)
It also has a setting for "direction"... again, no directions, as you will see, I focused FIRST and then it went from there to closest..

It took all 10 shots and adjusted the focus point on its own... I did NOTHING! It adjusted the focus
point on its own... ( would need to learn the units and meaning of Focus Step if I was going to use it)

Once you have the images, you need to STACK them.. preferred in PS but my old CS2 would not do it so
I located a free stacker called CombineZP. I loaded the images in, selected stack & GO, then saved the Output file.

Here are the shots - 1st is a test shot focused at the center... 2nd is the output from the stacking

Folks, it works!! It is also simple, no manual focus or anything else... just set the software
and say go! I will likely try this next week with a Macro lens and see how it performs.

REMINDER : DSLRdashboard is Android Only!

On the other thread I mentioned camranger - wireless control of multiple cameras from iThings AND a wireless tripod head for panning and tilting. I am seriously tempted ... (and not affiliated).

Got the 1B today, played around and one thing I didn't really like was Live View would not enable because my battery was below 30%. Well this is sort of a glitch as my grip had 60%. No big deal I needed to charge the batteries anyway for the weekend.

Initial thoughts, the remote viewing and triggering will be great. It does do RAW but as with Eye-Fi, its slow so set your camera to jpeg. I did like the fact that I could remotely view the pictures that were on the camera and had not been sent to my Ipad. Which if you are getting a little old in the eyes its a real nice feature to view on a larger screen. I couldn't do that with Eye-Fi.

More time this weekend to play with it, but so far its worth it.

I did look at CamRanger but couldn't justify the cost nor the need as I plan to do this type of work on occasion and not full time.

Kevin, there is a setting and I think you can go down to 10% battery power ... (I am assuming the Nikon WMU)

Yep it was a setting that I could change, Thanks Pat.

Played around with this more this weekend away from my home wireless and found that it really is useful. I used it on a macro shot and a shot of the moon that was almost straight above my head. The moon shot was hard for me to get under my camera and focus so I used the wireless adapter, worked perfectly for me and save my neck.

Glad to be able to help... that is what this whole thread was about... I cannot tell you how many and how often folks here have stepped up to help me.. I am happy to be able to give a little back.

Have Fun!
