They play in the mount was apparently enough to affect the electrical contacts, and made focus iffy. Now I'm getting very sharp results again. I have a 1.4x teleconverter attached to this lens all the time.The Tamron 150-600 is a lens that I have a bit of mixed feelings about. I like the focal range, and it has permitted me to get some close shots I would have missed with a prime lens. It does get a little soft at 600mm, but overall it's a sharp lens. This lens does have a problem where it simply stops autofocusing, and you have to turn the camera off for a few seconds and turn it back on to get it working again. Fortunately, this doesn't happen very often.I haven't had the Tamron 100-400 for long enough to really know what I think about it. I can get good close up shots, and it's pretty sharp, although not as sharp as the Nikon 300mm, or my venerable Nikon 70-300.
