Well I do have a FTZ ii. I was going to use my f mount lenses on the Z, but went a different direction. My niece lives here now and I wanted to get her into photography so I got her a body and gave her most of my f mount lenses. Except the 200mm. I could not part with that one. As I am reading these posts over again, I think most of my problem is emotional more than technical. I readily accept that the Z is more advanced and capable on a technical level. There is that bit about the 850 that is just a pleasure to use. And I have to admit as bad as making noise is out there where the wild critters are, I like the sound from the mirror flipping up. I'm too practical to just use the 850, anyway, I hope. But then what do I do with the 850? I can use it for macro or with the 24-70 that is still f mount. What are your thoughts on teleconverters? The videos I have seen so far have suggested that the performance is pretty similar between a 600mm and a 400mm with a 1.4TC. I wonder how that might work on a 200-500? That would push the F stop up a bit too though. Of course, those same videos have recommended going to the most length first and then a TC if needed... Side question... Is there a Tamron lens that is worth considering or best to stay with Nikon in this application? Clovis, you mentioned taking pictures of insects with a long lens... I had not thought of that and will have to give it a try.
