I have been bouncing back and forth on the Nikon DF, such potential, such failures, one can read the almost countless reviews, and such,, and get the opinions, Up front, what I don't like,, the still too large of a body,, the less high end focusing system, kinda sad that they did not at least put the D800 level Auto Focus instead of the 610, such a STRANGE decision on Nikon's part. but...... still the smallest NIKON full frame, and perhaps the best MANUAL style SLR in the lineup. I will see. The actual niche I am buying for is the low light and wide dynamic range of the D4 sensor. I already have the Pixel hog of the 800, and the ultra portability of Sony and Fuji systems, so, this one is that middle ground between the mirrorless and the 800. What I am looking for,, is the really well matched Nikon with my small Nikon Primes. I always felt the 800 seems kinda unbalanced with the small primes, the 800 is better matched with the bulky zooms of my collection. So for example, the 14-24 fits way better on the 800 then the DF. That is the irony or just reality of camera gear, there is NO perfect camera. Everything is a trade-off. Over many years, you can build up gear,, (me mostly used),, or sales. This DF was a refurbished fire sale from a reputable supplier, I have been watching the market for a while, and seems like Any decent one goes for like 1500 to 1600 dollars for body only, so, got it at 1700 but that included the packaged 50 mm lens, warranty, and should be like new condition, better then the almost 3000 list price of new. Still a luxury for sure, for a niche camera. Will I LOVE ,, I honestly don't know. I will say, I love the Fuji Xt1, from a shooter's perspective. so,, I am hoping this Nikon mirrors my love of the controls. I'll use the on lens aperture ring even. I am really looking forward to comparing image quality of the DF sensor to say the 800 sensor. or the Sony or Fuji Sensors. Every camera has a different look. ok,, words up.. got to run.
