Well,, time to pack up the 810, glad I got that out of my system. after 14 days, it is just another camera,
the finest improvement is clearly the shutter, funny, but it almost reminds me of the D200 shutter, The D200
also has a very quiet shutter, but then again so does the D7000, it was really the D700 and D800 with
the louder shutters, then again, so was the old film SLRs.
What I did not like is the moving to the Bracket button of the dial. and returning to a small button in front.
The one button I hate, is still there ... the Quality button,, oh awful button, who has not accidently hit that
button and lower the quality of shots. I leave mine in RAW/fine 100% of the time. Once I was in Pompeii
taking all type of shots, only to find I had hit my quality button back to Basic .. grrrrrrrr.. and yet this
awful button remains,, and the bracket button is moved to a tiny button.
My hands are normal size, so I don't need the deeper hand grip, but I suppose some will appreciate that.
I do like the white LEDs in the viewfinder, I can read that easier.
Picture quality, marginal,, really can't see a gain over my D800. whew! no stress on getting a new one.
frankly, with cameras prices of 800 down to 1400 dollars, I would recommend a clean 800 over a new
810. I tried the tripod same setup tests, and nothing lept off the screen. Frankly, all the cameras
are clear, or clear enough. Even the lowly 200 was fine. the sharpness between the 800 and
810 was not discernable. And for some reason, my D700 seemed to be the sharpest. but
really is hard to tell. which is GOOD,, its really is the photographer ! now, and not the SLR.
so, stop looking for the magic SLR, and focus on the subject.
I do think the JPEGs are slightly better, great color, and even less need to edit from raw.
but,, on the other hand, if you want new,, and upgrading from say a older 300/700/7100,, the 810
is almost a no brainer great camera.
I will keep the camera on my future buy used list,. say 3-4 years from now, when my 800 is
nearing wear out,, I could see a 810 for say 1500 dollars.
I am glad to have a reasonable rental cost,, around 190 dollars for the 15 days. a bit high
for a test run, but how else ot get an extended run.
