Beginning to ramp up the fall campaign!,, a photo hanging,, preparing for an all day class, and then the shoots trying to obtain the definitive but elusive fall photo.
One of the exercises was trying to find new pictures to print,, maybe I am getting worse in my photography,, or just keep
getting more fussy,, or both, but harder to pick and find the photos I really really want printed and behind frames.
What I like to do, is keep a folder,, where I place potential prints (and these are a subset of portfolio groupings), and
then I go thru the print folder debating which ones to print,, So, out of say 60 potential print shots,, I'll pick maybe 5-6
to print at 13x19,
Then I keep a spare Matte, and on a flat table,, place the matte over the pictures, one at a time,, because,, pictures can leap out, or sometimes just become blah once framed in the matte, the glass is just the added bonus to make them really pop.
I'll leave them like that for a day or so,, seeing if I like looking at the picture over time,, if so,, then it becomes a Framed photo to
be added to the stack,
I do pull pictures out of the frames, and replace with more fresh shots,, just because,, I can't keep buying frames, and I have enough laying around.
When people want to buy my photos, (occasionally happens.. laughs),, I reprint/matte and give them the matted photo,,
Why... first, my frame taste is simple, and might not match their taste or decor..
second,, well the profit is in the Print,, the best profit is to only sell them the print,,, and skip the matte, really make nothing on the Matte,
but,, the picture looses some of the magic when you don't include the matte.
I think you need to keep the value factor up,, when people are giving money. So,, a 50 dollar print/matte,, is still 25 dollars profit, or more,, if you buy mattes in bulk (I don't sell enough prints to go buy a stack of Matte)
so,,, keep an eye out for those perfect trees/photos..
