The old Mirror 500 mm F8 lens,, is an interesting old work of art,, and frankly,, is not much respected
or even used,,

but,,,, you know,, it has its strengths,, so for example,, here is a hand held shot of just some flowers on a
bush outside my house...

_DSC3688 flower hightlights smaller.jpg

for a mirror lens,, hand held, fairly sharp,, and a nice effect too.. well,, in my opinion,

these lens can be bought quite cheap,,

The 500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor-C was actually used a lot for sports photography, especially when it first came out. It is tremendously sharp and lightweight and had buttery smooth and easy focusing, one finger is all it took. The very shallow depth of field made focusing a snap on the ground glass since the split image and microprism were goners at f/8. Of course with fixed aperture it did have its limitations and some people just could not get past the "donut" thing. I shot this portrait with one mounted on a monopod back in 2009. I sold it last year and have regretted it ever since.
