Just when I was thinking that I was not going to get much use out of the 80-400,,, miracles
of miracles,, I just happened to be passing the practice Airport of the Thunderbirds,, during
their 20 minute practice session,,, and mind you,, I was going close to 80mph,, and
zip right to the side of the road,, and out came my 80-400
I have the previous version,,, and people give this lens a hard time for slow focus,, but
I managed to get a bunch of action shots of the planes in motion,, no problem locking in
the focus, and was I glad to have 400 mm to work with,,, I needed all of it.

its like I am flying right next to them! my own private air show,, just me and one truck that pulled over to watch
the action, it was on the way back to leave,, so it was totally icing on the cake.
and thank goodness I had my big tele! or I would have been cursing my planning.
overall,, the lens choices went great,, about the only think I would have added was
a 10X ND to get some cloud blurrng shots, but that is a nit.
With some evening and airport time, I am already 3/4 thru the
first selection/edit phase.
