Jan 19, Day 19, Shot 19 Took my drive this afternoon and didn't get far before I had to stop and watch a Great Blue Heron struggle to eat his day's catch, a fairly good size (for him) Largemouth Bass. I missed the catch, but did spend over 20 minutes watching the bird maneuver and swallow the fish. It finally did swallow it successfully!! After the drama ended, I proceeded on to my original destination, even though I was running late. This bird was fully willing to pose and let me approach much closer than I needed to. I found the pier I wanted to shoot from closed, so I had to find another spot further down the marina, which cost me more time, but there were pelicans near there. And herons, also. And finally, one Pelican in front of a sunset that I had to try. All taken with my new AF-S 70-200 VR II on my D90. I definitely had the shakes today, and that manifested itself in the quality of my shots; I had a hard time, even with perched birds. I hope it was all of the caffeine that I'd consumed earlier today (four cups of coffee.) If not, and it's me, I'm going to have to resort to a monopod or tripod all of the time. :( WM
