Hi guys I just bought Nikon D7200 (upgrade from d90) to use it on my holiday/wedding/honeymoon in Mauritius šŸ˜ I already have 50 mm 1.4 lens for close shots etc. but now I'm looking for sth more versatile with a decent zoom. I've been thinking about 50-300 mm but I'm still not convinced. What do u think? I'm not the expert at all so any constructive advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the website.

How much do you want to spend!
What are you going to be taking pictures of!
A 18-140mm is a good all round lens ideal for walkabout.

It depends on what you want to shoot. We buy dslr's so we can change lenses, but it is also nice to not have to carry them or change them for a given activity. As mentioned, the 18-140 is a great walking around lens. The 18-105 is good too if you are on a budget. You could spend a day walking around and be happy with either of those lenses. Not a lot of zoom though, but good for people pics and many vacation sights. Not so good for wildlife unless they are close.
You have a 50mm, which is great for a lot of things you might see walking around. Its a bit too close for some indoor situations and not great for wide landscape. With that in mind, I vote as well for the 18-140 (or 105) so you have some wide coverage too. Get the longer zoom when you have a specific need for the reach, and then decide between the 55-300 and 70-300. The 55- is lighter, smaller, cheaper and easier to carry. The 70- is heavier, larger, more expensive and somewhat clunky to carry around, but its a better lens.

When I was shooting DX only, I had the Nikon 18-200VRII and liked it as a decent all purpose lens. You'll need 18mm for landscapes and at least 200mm for wildlife. It's $599US, so I think it's close to your budget. Good luck!

The D7200 is high resolution so a cheap lens will only disappoint. The 18-140 is a good all-around lens and I have one for my D7100. No point in looking at the 18-105 unless you just want something less expensive. The IQ is the same on them as far as I could ever see and I have had both. The 18-200 sounds good on paper but I have one for my wife on her D7000 and in my opinion it is just not as sharp.
