What to take to a music festival

So, I am going to Wanee music festival with friends. I was wondering what would be a good lens to put on my nikon d5200. I have a 35mm f1.8. My purpose is to just take shots of what's going around us. I don't necessarily need to take close shots of the bands from far away.
any help will do!
Thanks!

Typically a 35 or 50mm lens will be all the wide angle you'll need since you'll presumably not be that close to the stage and the musicians, so I think you've got that focal length coverer. I assume that it's an outdoor concert, no? If so, bring a telephoto like a 70-300mm so you can both get them up close and can compress the background. If this in an indoor or evening concert then the 70-300mm might be too slow a lens and you may have to move to a 70-200 f/2.8G. that you can rent if you don't already have one.

I agree, a short to medium telephoto. You are at a large venue and in one spot. Shooting with just a 35 or 50 won't give you that sense of occasion apart from location, but not the kind of intimacy such an event could afford. Unless you are shooting just the people sitting next to you. :p

Sorry, what to buy. I own only a 35mm 1.8. I was thinking I would need another lens to help me take good pictures of the variety of things I will come across at these music festivals that I will to with friends. In the past I had a Canon G10 that served me fine. But I've upgraded to a Nikon D5200 and don't have the G10 anymore (broke it). When I bought my Nikon, I didn't get the kit, but added the lens I mentioned.

Would the 70-200 do fine during the day also? It will be both day and evening. And yes, it is an outdoor concert. I don't have one and couldn't afford one right now. But I could definitely rent one.

The 70-200 would "do fine" or better day and night.
