Selling my expensive work wheels soon on my G....Will have 2k to work with...As in my Sig I currently have the Nikkor 50mm 1.8g and Nikkor 85mm 1.8g....I do need a wide lens and a 70-200mm lens..I do mainly portraiture...
I really want to stay true to Nikkor because i love the quality..Been hearing to many issues with 3rd party lenses...Would like to stick with FX Lens due to when I upgrade one day from my D7100. Thanks:untroubled:
PS..I love primes and alittle nervous about zooms...Fast glass is a must...(For Me)

Not very wide on Dx, indeed. But even 28mm would represent a significant leap towards wider angles, to a photographer equipped with normal and portrait lenses. And here, in Serbia (where I live), this extreme wide angle beauty can be obtained (on a grey market) for a few hundred $:
Nikon 15mm f/3.5 AI-s

It's not that I am ashamed with using Samyang, but, if I would have enough money to spend, my choice would be:

I am in a similar situation. I am just getting into photography. A few years back I purchased the D5000 with the standard 18-55 and 55-200. Recently my gf got me some lessons and renewed my excitement for photography. I purchased the Nikkor 35mm 1.8 and I love it. In December I took a trip to Florida and rented the 17-55mm 2.8...I am pretty sure that will be my next purchase with my tax return. But looking into the near future, I am considering upgrading the D5000 to either the D7100 or 610 (Happy 30th Birthday to me). I want to start to put together a good array of lens. I'm thinking if I stick with DX then I would get the 17-55, have the 55-200 (because I really don't take a ton of long range photos), the 35mm (for parties and such) and a wide angle zoom either the 10-24 or the 12-24...For someone who is still wading in the waters of photography, does that seem like a solid group of lens or am I headed in the wrong direction??

I'm not looking to make any money off of shots. This is a hobby of mine that I picked up, thats all. I want to be able to have nice shots from vacations, family gatherings, or trips into the city...I figure if I upgrade to the D7100 I can start to build a lens collection now. That way I won't have to start all over.

For DX, D7100 and Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 DX lens is a great start. Add a SB700 or SB910 and you should be good to go for most of your general photography. Get a wider lens in the future if that is something that you want in the future followed by a macro lens perhaps?

I was very happy with the 17-55mm when I rented it. I'm going to take part of my tax return to purchase it. I also rented the SB700, even though I don't have any formal lessons on shooting with a flash, I messed around and got some decent shots. Slowly but surely I plan on putting together a good array of equipment...

I would've honestly considered getting a D600/610 since you pretty much had all the glass you'd ever need for your preferred style. FX opens up many more possibilities than a pro zoom that gets cropped on your current body, IMO.

Waiting on an improved 6xx series...Better focusing system, faster shutter 1/8000, and removing the AA filter...Once they do that, I will get a fx camera and will already have the 24mm-70mm 2.8 :)
